Our Hurricane rated Bahama shutter is our ABS impact polymer shutter with a sheet of polycarbonate attached to the back. It has been accepted by the Florida Building Commission and is also accepted under the International Building Code as a Hurricane impact protection product. These shutters are an attractive alternative to protect your structure in wind-borne debris regions. They are classified as a non-porous shutter protective assembly and may be used to protect any opening regardless of whether the opening is glazed or not. They may be used to protect retrofit projects when the existing openings do not meet today’s design pressure requirements. They offer protection from wind and rain even if the glass is broken. During non storm conditions they act as an attractive sun shade over your openings. However, when a storm threatens, they are easily locked down in as little as 5 minutes. Where your openings allow for an inside access, they can be locked down from inside your house instead of a hard to reach outside lockdown which may be several stories off the ground. For detailed installation instructions please visit the Florida “Building code on-line”. SHUTTER SIZE: There are size limitations on the Hurricane rated product. The maximum height is 96” and the maximum width of a single shutter is 38”. However, for widths greater than 38” the openings may be spanned by any number of widths as long as no single shutter exceeds 38” wide. For example, a 60 inch wide opening would require 2 shutters at 30 inches wide and a 99 inch wide opening would require 3 shutters at 33 inches wide. PAINT: The paint is a two component acrylic polyurethane which uses a spray application. The resulting finish has excellent long life characteristics. We do custom color matching at no extra charge. The gloss has been lowered to give a beautiful sheen which more closely matches house paints without the harsh look of a high gloss finish. The paint won’t peel or flake and later, should you decide to refinish, simply clean with xylene or acetone and paint with almost any finish right over the factory coat. HARDWARE: Our hurricane rated shutters have a special heavy-duty hardware which must be installed according to special instructions. We recommend their installation be done by professionals familiar with hurricane codes. Hardware is supplied in stainless steel with aluminum support rods for ease in cutting. Powder coated colors are available at an extra charge. WARRANTY: Hurricane rated shutters have a limited 10 year warranty against rotting, splitting or warping. The paint is warranted for 10 years against peeling, flaking or loss of adhesion. Normal fading which results in color loss is not covered. |
